Movie Review – Swatantrya Veer Savarkar

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is undoubtedly an excellent movie & great work by actor and producer – Randeep Hooda.

Most importantly the casting is worth appreciating. Based on my reading & study of Veer Savarkar, I could easily correlate the characters of Savarkar brothers, Lokmanya Tilak, Madan Lal Dhingra, Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi.

I was keeping an eye on the time allocated to each part of Veer Savarkar’s life. Kaala Pani/Cellular Jail was around 30 mins. (post intermission), which was even extremely painful to watch on screen unimaginable as to how Veer Savarkar would have gone through.

Even the character of David Barry, the jailor was very well executed. Barry’s last evening at Cellular Jail was full of frustration. Emotional bond between Savarkar brothers was also very well presented.

Somehow, I thought Veer Savarkar’s social work in Ratnagiri should have been incorporated with a bit more elaborate manner in the movie, though there was a reference to that of Patit Paavan Mandir.

Interesting to note is that the movie has shown all 3 meetings of Veer Savarkar & Mahatma Gandhi, in which they discussed the ways of achieving India’s independence.

The movie almost ends when Veer Savarkar gets arrested in independent India because of the 5 days visit of Liaquat Ali Khan, then Prime Minister of Pakistan.

For these 5 days visit, he was arrested for 100 days – post independence! This was also quite painful to see.

Overall a great effort by Randeep Hooda & Team!
